This is a fun blog
hi
I am writing this to escape the horrors of my book review that morphed into it’s own history lesson on meme survivability in the wild.
I would like to talk about things I like for once - short and sweet - balance for the book review madness. A chance to get to know me a little better.
I like big sound music.
Whatever that means - it’s my vibe, music that encompasses a liminal-esque space, whichever room in your mind palace that you hear that echo or reverb floating around. This sound to me has always brought about feelings of scale at play, cosmic concepts and the melancholy of the void. It can communicate something very human, by creating a space for the listener to be in the music. Music to walk the desert to.
In addition to this, I like orchestral music, for much the same reason. expression through sound and syntax that tells a story beyond the four minute ababcdba format
I like it when it rains.
There’s something soothing to me about the patter of rain on a window, the waxing and waning intensity as wind driven sheets splatter on the glass barrier between me and sky. A gentle reminder of scale and that I am not the big bad my brain makes me out to be.
I like romanticism.
People my age call me old fashioned. I don’t use dating apps, and I am not into the “free love” lifestyle - though I certainly understand it.
I am a fan of the chase, the allure of a person - I like the feeling of being exclusive - not in any possessive sense, but in the “we are just for each other” kind of lovey dovey way. Obviously, this doesn’t really work in this world anymore - and we are all the worse for it.
Bring back love letters, candlelit dinners and forsaking offers in the chase of the one..
I like the movie Dante’s Peak
An odd movie to choose, even for me - I was trying to find an obscure choice that would not betray my sensibilities. A movie about a second chance within a disaster story - I got really high once and developed a theory based on the colours characters were wearing - closer to RED = danger.
I was stoned, don’t judge me.
I like you.
you there, reading this. the fact you are here is cool and you should read more traveller - you might find something in these muddled thoughts worth taking with you. just by being alive you are part of a large equation - and I for one am glad you are here.
I like Mystery Thrillers
Growing up I was obsessed with Dan Brown - his books were the backdrop to many an evening, hunting down symbols even when I knew the answer. Something about the pacing of those books tickles my brain - breakneck flow.
The audio books read by Paul Michael are also excellent.
Other mystery thrillers I have enjoyed:
Gone Girl
The Jack Reacher novels
His Dark Materials - written for kids and adults - kind of a cheat choice.
Shameful admission! - I enjoyed Sekret Machines by Tom Delonge
many others I did not enjoy - most get pacing wrong.
I like to travel.
life long dreams of traversing the worlds* - I have seen some, still got some to see. some of my favourite memories are seeing some crazy locations when I wake up - feeling of the frontier - both in the real and the imagined. inner and outer travel - it’s a fun hobby of mine.
Thanks for reading! check out my other longer form pieces, usually stuffed full of references and opportunities to learn.
Until next time
Kari
